    London Living:
    Dollar Bay

Striking architecture, an incredible location and unparalleled services make Dollar Bay overlooking Canary Wharf one of London's most desirable new developments

    Words: Catherine Moye

Dollar Bay is one of London’s most sought-after new residential builds, and the spectacular luxury tower in Canary Wharf is made all the more appealing by its prime location – and the imminent opening of the city’s Crossrail link.

Poised on the water’s edge at the foot of the South Dock, Dollar Bay’s unique location means its views of Canary Wharf are unhindered by neighbouring buildings. That offers residents of this 31-storey tower unequalled bird’s-eye panoramas right across Canary Wharf’s skyline and beyond, the aerial peaks and plateaux rising from the River Thames and the quaysides dissolving into distant impressions of central London.

‘Due to its privileged position, the scheme was designed in such a way as to ensure that all 113 of Dollar Bay’s apartments enjoy stunning water views, and in all directions,’ explains Jon Hall, sales and marketing director at the award-winning  developer Mount Anvil, which is behind the scheme, in partnership with Citystyle Homes. ‘To achieve this, the architect, Ian Simpson, angled the individual panes of glass in such a way as to maximise views from every part of the building.’

It was Simpson’s innovative use of glass – the same as is used in The Shard – creating a distinctive crystal effect that reflects the surrounding sky and water, that staked Dollar Bay’s claim to being the most innovative addition yet to the Docklands skyline.

Simpson’s intention was to blend water, glass and sky into a seamless whole. That unity of colour and form, of natural and man-made worlds, is relayed all through Dollar Bay’s ‘inside-outside’ apartments, each of which opens onto a lush winter garden that provides residents with the year-round luxury of an outdoor space. These winter gardens are enclosed behind operable louvred glass and can be accessed from both the living room and bedroom of each apartment via glazed sliding doors.

The stylishly contemporary, open-plan interiors employ a classically cool and sophisticated colour palette. Like the surrounding area itself, each apartment is vibrant and modern. That sensation is conveyed by the eye-catching living spaces with floor-to-ceiling windows, comfort cooling and underfloor heating throughout the apartment, impressively equipped kitchens with built-in wine fridges, bathrooms with double-ended baths, and master bedrooms with full-height wardrobes and Sky+ Multiroom.

    Dollar Bay Penthouse Bathroom

This peerless finish and sense of wellbeing is never more luxuriously realised than in Dollar Bay’s top-floor apartments, all four of which are being released for sale this month. At a cost of £3.5m, the foremost of these outstanding penthouses boasts 3,200sq ft arranged over three storeys with a mezzanine. The panoramic views and perspectives it offers of London’s dramatic, ever-changing skyline are unrivalled – especially when viewed from one’s rooftop Jacuzzi.

But while the penthouses are for the lucky few, the development’s communal facilities heighten every resident’s experience of living at Dollar Bay. They include a round-the-clock concierge service, landscaped private gardens, a state-of-the-art gym and a residents’ lounge area – all there to help ease the stress of a busy modern lifestyle.
