Tag Heuer is continuing its 160th anniversary celebrations in style with the release of a new collector’s piece that takes inspiration from one of its most covetable timepieces from the 1970s.
The Tag Heuer Carrera 160 Years Montreal Limited Edition sees the comeback of ‘Montreal’, a collection of colourful chronographs launched by the watchmaker in 1972. It specifically takes its design cues from the White Heuer Montreal (the reference 110503W), borrowing its bright palette of red, yellow and blue, made possible at the time due to the then-revolutionary ability to use coloured luminescent materials.
‘The Heritage department selected the white Montreal design to mark Tag Heuer’s anniversary year because the piece is pure beauty and the colourful dial is full of joy,’ explains Catherine Eberle-Devaux, Tag Heuer heritage director. ‘We played with the existing design codes and brought them to life in a bold new way, merging them with the Carrera spirit and breaking the rules in true Tag Heuer fashion.’
These eye-catching features have been blended with Tag Heuer’s iconic Carrera to create a bold new timepiece with a distinctively retro feel. The white dial is punctuated with three blue subdials, including a chronograph minute counter at 3 o’clock featuring curved highlights in yellow Super-Luminova. Limited to 1,000 pieces, the watch features a special tributary engraving on the sapphire crystal case back.
Like all modern Carrera’s, it takes advantage of Tag Heuer’s high-tech timekeeping. Powered by the Calibre Heuer 02 movement, made in-house at the watchmaker’s Chevenez manufacture, it comes with enhanced precision and reliability and offers an impressive power reserve of 80 hours.
