When Breitling revisited its Top Time last year, it went all-out on 1960s style, with its bold, playful look and graphic ‘Zorro’ dial. A new limited-edition take on the watch once again channels a vintage aesthetic, this time looking to the world of motorcycling and the allure of adventure and the open road.

The Top Time Deus Limited Edition sees the watchmaker team up with Aussie brand Deus Ex Machina, which started out making custom motorbikes and has since evolved into a creative platform encompassing surf, snow and other sporty pursuits. For this timepiece, however, it goes back to the company’s origins, with retro details recalling the golden age of motorcycling. This fun, free spirit comes through in the 1970s yellow-and-orange colour scheme, squircle-shaped counters and lightning bolt-shaped chronograph hand. Meanwhile, the reverse of the watch features an artwork of a motorcyclist in full flight, designed by Deus creative director Carby Tuckwell.

Breitling often enlists the help of its ‘squads’ to put its new releases through their paces, this time looking to its new Deus Squad, a trio of creative and daring individuals who are also long-time collaborators with Deus Ex Machina. Covering all bases will be Californian surfboard shaper and motorcycle racer Forrest Minchinton, joined by French motorcycle engineer Jeremy Tagand and Hawaiian competitive surfer Sierra Lerback.

Stylish, yet robust and reliable, the watch comes powered by the COSC-certified Breitling Caliber 23, offering a power reserve of around 48 hours. Limited to 1,500 pieces, the Top Time Deus is initially available exclusively online, with the added bonus of a Deus coffee table book and special canvas tote bag.
