Nestled in the hills of St Tropez and surrounded by lush nature reserves, Lily of the Valley is a luxury five-star retreat made for those seeking improved health and wellbeing without invasive medical treatments or daunting fasts. What makes the fitness and wellness plans here special is a focus on enjoyment. Even though the programmes are ambitious, and some are intensive, it still remains a great experience throughout. Unlike any other hotel on the French Riviera, it remains open year-round, allowing guests to detox in any season, rain or shine.
Upon arrival, we were immediately captivated by the architecture of this two-tiered, low-lying hotel designed by the architect Philippe Starck. It seamlessly blends with its natural environment, reflecting his vision that no structure should surpass the height of the surrounding trees. With the earthy tones of the buildings, wildflowers and panoramic sea vistas, you can’t help but feel enveloped by nature from the moment you arrive – a perfect beginning to your holiday retreat.
Lily of the Valley boasts remarkable facilities and services, highlighted by its expansive 2,000sqm “wellness village”. Very much tailored to individual needs, guests can indulge in personalised programmes that could involve a Kinvent physical condition evaluation (which uses advanced technology to assess your physical condition by measuring muscle strength, balance and suppleness), serene float yoga sessions in the pool and luxurious detox treatments such as a ginger body wrap.
Guests can also immerse themselves in a diverse curation of activities set against the idyllic Mediterranean landscape. Beyond the spa and fitness centre, they can engage in outdoor sessions including aqua boxing, sea wading and paddleboarding. Also, don’t miss exclusive access to Plage de Gigaro’s sandy shores, just a three-minute drive from the hotel.
This year, Lily of the Valley has introduced three meticulously crafted wellness programmes catering to diverse needs: Better Ageing, Sport and Detox. Brummell had the privilege of participating in the detox plan. The package is crafted to provide guests with a respite from the stresses and strains of everyday life with an emphasis on relaxation and detoxification. What truly stood out to us was the gastronomic approach, designed to replenish the body with a delightful array of healthy, locally sourced ingredients, making each meal a delicious experience while also achieving weight-loss goals. It’s worth noting that you have the option to dine at the Vista Restaurant, where you can enjoy sea views, or at the Brigantine restaurant, situated on the beach front and renowned for its traditional Italian cuisine.
Over a few transformative days, we immersed ourselves in a light fitness regimen that included invigorating yoga sessions at Shape Club, guided treks through the nature reserve and a personalised physical analysis under the expert guidance of a dedicated coach. The programme is complemented by detoxifying treatments such as manual lymphatic drainage and dry brushing, designed to effectively eliminate toxins from the body.
Offering 38 rooms, six suites, eight pool suites – many with picture-perfect views of the coastline – the hotel has furnished each room with a modern elegance, placing an emphasis on comfort and luxury. We stayed in a Deluxe room, which has its own terrace with partial sea views. The room itself is a sanctuary of opulence, featuring a marble bathroom with both a rain shower and a bathtub, with a king-size bed, TV, well-stocked mini fridge and a premium coffee machine. Attention to detail is evident with daily replenishing of detox waters and bathing loofahs, ensuring a truly indulgent stay.
What made Lily of the Valley truly unforgettable was the exceptional service. From the great care shown by the housekeepers to the warm and helpful hotel staff, every aspect of our stay made us feel genuinely at home.
Lily of the Valley is deserving of its five-star status. It is an experience that offers exclusivity and comfort all while teaching the guests how to adjust their lifestyles in a way that sustains a healthy body and mind.
