As the evolution of men’s fashion moves towards individuality, breaking rules and twisting style codes to form a better version of yourself, it begs the question: how can we add a touch of finesse to the more formal of life’s occasions?

The answer is Favourbrook, whose beautiful fabrics, rich colours and stand-out silhouettes set it apart as the modern dandy’s sartorial go-to.

‘Favourbrook is a way of life,’ says Oliver Spencer, the designer and founder of the brand. ‘I think it’s really important to dress up for parties and occasions. We provide clothing that’s eclectic and eccentric mixed in with classic, for people who want to wear clothing that’s different. It’s clothing for people to have fun in.’

And the brand’s flair for flamboyant sophistication continues in its autumn 2024 collection, taking its seasonal cues from the so-called “Peacock Revolution” that transformed the menswear landscape from the 1950s to the ’70s, with rich textiles, bold colours and unconventional embroidery and silhouettes.

Plush fabrics such as sumptuous velvet take centre stage in a new roster of deep rich hues, imbuing the collection with a warmth perfectly suited to the impending party season, including the navy Regency velvet waistcoat in a vivacious fruity floral print. Elsewhere, muted pink poplin fabrics and frilled dress shirts add a theatrical energy to evening attire, reminiscent of the charismatic ’60s: a time when standard dress codes – that had been adhered to since Victorian times – made way for a more exuberant style.

This era of style freedom saw men turn to travel and culture for inspiration, opting for Italian-style slimline suits and Parisian Beatnik aesthetics (Favourbrook’s claret velvet cotton Artist jacket from the new collection is perfect for adding poetic je ne sais quoi to evening attire) in place of standard dressing rules.

The brand’s smoking and dinner jackets also nostalgically tap into this time of expressive apparel. Constructed from soft cotton piles of chocolate, olive, emerald green and a deep port red, they open the door to a fresh, sophisticated take on black-tie dressing. The brand’s focus on diverse textiles is key in turning traditional style on its head, this season in the form of corduroy suits realised in moss green, olive, pink and navy.

Favourbrook’s approach to creating exceptional eveningwear using traditional techniques challenges the staid rule of formal masculine etiquette. By accentuating classic styles with luxurious fabrics, bold tones and opulent frills, it allows for a subtle style transgression that adds a stamp of charisma and charm to an evening ensemble without a hint of arrogance.

The beauty of Favourbrook, says Spencer, is reflected in its diverse customer base who appreciate all levels of flamboyance and charm and who all take something different from the brand. ‘We’re not guided by fashion,’ he says. ‘We get on with things in our own way.’
