This February, London will welcome five new culinary venues by Gordon Ramsay Restaurants to the top floors of 22 Bishopsgate in the City of London.

Situated at level 60, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants brings its acclaimed Lucky Cat brand to new heights, following successful openings in Mayfair, Manchester and Miami. Inspired by Ramsay’s extensive travels around the continent, the pan-Asian restaurant will claim the title of London’s highest, where diners will enjoy stunning views of the River Thames, The Shard and St Paul’s as a backdrop while they tuck into sashimi and tempura.

The project will also feature a rooftop bar, serving Lucky Cat’s inventive cocktail menu. Complete with a late-night licence until 3am and a retractable roof, the venue will be unlike anything else in London.

Ramsay will also unveil a 12-seat Chef’s Table, characterfully called Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, as the second outpost of his flagship three-Michelin-starred Chelsea restaurant. On level 59, high diners will find a Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, and the development will also include a new Gordon Ramsay Academy, powered by HexClad.

For this ambitious endeavour, Ramsay has teamed up with the London interior design company Russell Sage Studio, a partnership that spans over two decades. Together, they have created some of London’s most visually stunning restaurants, including the Art Deco Restaurant 1890 at The Savoy, Knightsbridge’s Pétrus and most recently, the Bread Street Kitchen at Battersea Power Station.

One of the project’s key goals has been to enhance the breathtaking city views by avoiding reflections in the glass. To achieve this, Russell Sage Studio has worked closely with lighting designer Victoria Jerram to ensure light sources are hidden and dimmable. Curated scene-setting will be taking place before the opening so that lighting is at the optimal level for city gazing. Other finishes, including the flooring that runs around the perimeter of the glazing, have been kept as dark as possible, ensuring London’s skyline is displayed in all its glory.

Sage and his team have also meticulously arranged the tables in each restaurant to ensure that every guest has the best seated view possible, which he points out has been a “great challenge” considering the unusual shape of 22 Bishopsgate. Even the restroom cubicles have been thoughtfully positioned to offer spectacular views.

Each restaurant will showcase its unique identity through its interior design. At Lucky Cat, guests will be welcomed by a bamboo entrance portal and two walls adorned with waving Maneki-Nekos. Sage has also designed a shoji screen feature to hang in the space, referencing the restaurant’s Japanese influence. Meanwhile, Bread Street Kitchen will highlight its casual charm with retro elements such as yellow and green metro tiles and bar-back joinery reminiscent of a New York-style bistro.

At Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, dark, glossy walls will showcase the breathtaking view across the east of the city to the Tower of London and Canary Wharf. At night, the moonrise will be complemented by etched glass panels depicting the night sky, created by Paul Clifford Glass Studio. A black glass chandelier will suspend over an elevated Chef’s Table, which will offer diners an improved viewpoint.

‘We’re not only launching the highest culinary experience in London,’ says Ramsay, ‘but also creating a vibrant culinary hub at 22 Bishopsgate’. The precision and creativity inherent in the project’s interior design is testimony to this intention and also reflects the dynamic partnership between Russell Sage Studio and Gordon Ramsay Restaurants.

But if you’re afraid of heights, it might be best to stick to Lucky Cat Mayfair.
