Over the holiday season, Corinthia London will offer guests an even greater sense of escape than it does through its afternoon teas, award-winning spa, and the excellent dining experiences provided by Kerridge’s Bar & Grill and The Northall restaurant. Collaborating with Acqua di Parma, it has created the Alpine Winter Garden, an immersive dining experience. And it has transformed its interior more broadly into a multisensory festive location.
After entering the hotel through its grand, restored façade, guests will encounter a bespoke Christmas tree created by renowned florist McQueens Flowers. Beneath the halo of golden leaves and icicles are gift boxes; surrounding it are miniature Picea trees. The rest of the hotel is adorned with nutcracker figurines, lush garlands and bespoke baubles, while festive flora festoon its corridors, colonnade and restaurants.
The menu in the Alpine Winter Garden includes classic dishes from the Alps – from baked spätzle with wild mushrooms, cream and aged comté to kaiserschmarrn with cherry compote. And adding some warmth to the festive spirit are hot Italian cocktails including a winter negroni and bombardino, a popular winter drink served in many of Italy’s ski resorts.
Candles and diffusers from Acqua di Parma’s new Holiday Collection are, meanwhile, scattered throughout the hotel. The brand has a long, successful history of evoking distant places through its aromas. At the beginning of the 20th century, Carlo Magnani concocted the iconic fragrance Colonia, to recall that very Parma sun whose intensity the refreshing scent complements to this day. Earlier this year, the brand expanded its Signatures of the Sun line with home fragrances that capture other remote corners of the globe, including the vast landscapes of south-west China.
Seasonal exclusives to be found at Corinthia London, however, capture wintry settings. The aromatic woodiness of the Bosco scent, for instance, brings into the hotel crisp winds flowing amid forests on winter mountains. It binds together notes of frosted pine needles, fir trees, eucalyptus, cloves and cedarwood. Magia del Camino evokes fireplace gatherings. And complementing the ambience of the Alpine Winter Garden is the Panettone scent, which hints at the festive Milanese cake, blending notes of vanilla with those of candied citrus fruits.
