Award-winning German porcelain producer Dibbern uses its ethos of traditional craftsmanship combined with contemporary design to create timeless, refined tableware. Having taken over Germany’s oldest private porcelain maker Hutschenreuther in the late 1990s, it has continued to add to almost two centuries of quality manufacturing heritage. At its factory in Bavaria, the company now handcrafts fine bone china that’s ultra-light yet resistant to breaking, wafer-thin yet stable.

It’s the perfect kind of porcelain for table service on which fine food and drinks are presented, and Dibbern sells custom-made fine bona china items to clientele that include luxury hotels such as Bulgari Hotels & Resorts and many high-profile food and beverage companies.

For many years, one of its collaborators has been former interiors architect Tobias Grau, who created his first collection of lamps in 1987 and founded an award-winning lighting company. Grau is passionate about innovating lighting solutions that can transform spaces into emotional experiences.

A great example of this is the Lumen collection he has designed for Dibbern. Currently being showcased at Milan Design Week 2023, it is Dibbern’s first lamp collection, featuring lamps that come in four bodies with different lengths. Each has the simple, concentrated structure of a cylinder.

The porcelain lamps come with a range of removable glass layers in two colourways, through which soft warm light glows, making Dibbern’s fine bone china truly shine.

The lamps use tipsyControl, a patented method of dimming and switching on/off by tilting, holding and setting them down again. It also allows them to shine at different degrees of brightness, adding yet another layer of customisation, through which you can create a variety of effects in your chosen space.

On 18 April, the collection is being showcased in an installation by Milanese set designers Cameranesi Pompili. This artistic space demonstrates the varied effects the collection’s combinations of shapes and colours can have on environments they occupy. It features transparent elements, image projections, podiums, mirrored cabinets and different backdrops. The daydreaming display, for example, is reminiscent of a 1970s gallery, and highlights the technology and reduced design of the Lumen lamps.
