The background
Harvey Nichols fifth floor is a mecca for food lovers who can enjoy a wide variety of different cuisines. It is home to the halal steakhouse Zelman Meats, Burger & Lobster and Madhu’s Brasserie, which serves a gourmet fusion menu inspired by Punjabi and Kenyan flavours. Pizza on Fifth is at the heart of it all, located next to Harvey Nichols’ famous Wine shop. If you’re lucky, you might even spot the merlot of your dreams at the comfort of your table.

The space
Pizza on Fifth’s refreshing and luminous space is perfect for a quick lunch after a busy day. Located in the light-filled central atrium of the fifth floor, its beautiful and minimalistic space is rewardingly convenient after pursuing the flavourful food markets and designer rails on the floor below.  Its marble tables, with gold accents, and open light provide an inviting and tranquil atmosphere into this generous area. The open kitchen draws you into the exquisite aroma of Italian cuisine, contributing to the restaurant’s stylish nature. It’s the sort of space that makes you want to redesign your dining room at home.

The food
We enjoyed service with a smile thanks to our very accommodating waiter. A generous range of pizzas and pastas make up this classic Italian menu. From the rigatoni to even the simplest margherita pizza, Fifth’s diverse selection accommodates all. We were first enticed by the charcuterie, which arrived ceremoniously with a delicious array of cured meats, crumbly parmesan, bite-sized bell peppers and oil drenched focaccia.

The mains itself were delightful. The prosciutto pizza was topped with soft burrata cheese and generously coated with peppery rocket and delectably moreish parma ham. The tortelloni ricotta e spinaci (the menu was presented in Italian for added authenticity) was equally appetising – these delicate parcels, made fresh and filled to the brim, are the perfect option for the veggie diner. Sufficiently garlicky and peppered with a handful of capers left us reeling for more. After indulging in this rich and delicious fare, we were almost too full for dessert, but it was near impossible to resist the affogato – a creamy gelato topped with fragrant espresso – mamma mia.

The bill
Three-course lunch or dinner for two with drinks is around £90.

The verdict
This serene Italian restaurant is a wonderfully appetising stop for a light lunch. Its authentic flavours will transport you straight to the soul of Italy, where its passion meets perfection.
