The Macallan single malt has invited sisters Mary and Stella McCartney to create a collection of tableware and other accessories to accompany the latest edition of its Harmony Collection whisky. It is the first time the photographer and designer have officially collaborated. Word has it that while Mary was doing a photo shoot at The Macallan Estate in Speyside, it brought back so many fond memories of their childhood with parents Paul and Linda, on the Mull of Kintyre, that she called Stella and invited her up. ‘I felt really proud to bring my little sister with me to The Macallan Estate, as I knew Stella would fall in love with this just as much as I did.’
Their creative response is Together: A Collection for The Macallan by Stella and Mary McCartney. The set (£10,000), which is not available separately, is full of accoutrements for whisky drinking, indoors and out. Among other items it includes a glass water jug, tumblers and ice bucket with brass tongs and ice stamps, as well as a ceramic flask with leather sleeve and a lambswool blanket. The Macallan Harmony Collection III: Amber Meadow (£160), with a box also designed by the sisters, is an incredibly approachable whisky – all honey and almond nougat and lemon meringue pie. There is also a fragrant, floral Green Meadow version, exclusive to global travel retail outlets.
