As well as being an icon of British design, luxury luggage manufacturer Globe-Trotter has collaborated with some of the most respected names in fashion, art and entertainment over the course of its 122-year history. Highlights include the gothic skull and studs-encrusted 2016 Alexander McQueen collaboration, a tartan-clad collection by Vivienne Westwood in 2013, a wardrobe-come-steamer trunk and drinks bar created for Chivas Regal in 2015, and a Gucci-fied range created for the Italian fashion giant in 2018.
Last summer saw a new string added to Globe-Trotter’s collaboration bow: this time with a strictly limited-edition range of colourful cases designed exclusively by British style icon, Sir Paul Smith.
Only 120 of these cases were created, each numbered and signed by the designer. As such, the collection sold out within a matter of weeks. So, due to popular demand, the second edition Globe-Trotter x Paul Smith collection is back for summer 2019 – and this time there’s enough for everyone.
The new Globe-Trotter x Paul Smith suitcase is made from Globe-Trotter’s trademark vulcanised fibreboard – a patented material renowned for its lightweight yet durable properties. Like every Globe-Trotter product, the case is made in the UK using meticulous and painstaking traditional methods, such as hand-stitched leather handles, riveted leather corners and even fibreboard cut on a Victorian-era guillotine.
A classic black fibreboard body is given trademark Paul Smith pizzaz in the form of eight multicoloured leather corners taken from Paul Smith’s ‘Signature Stripe’. The interior straps also feature the zesty stripe motif. The new case is available in either 20inch or a more spacious 30inch and is sure to give you plenty of admiring glances at the airport this summer.
Globe-Trotter x Paul Smith is available now from Globe-Trotter, 35 Albemarle Street, London W1S 4JD; globe-trotter.com
