In the elite circles of the British Special Forces, adaptability and resilience are not just traits, they are lifesavers. It was within this demanding environment that Anthony “Staz” Stazicker and Louis Tinsley, both distinguished operators in the Special Boat Service (SBS), first crossed paths. Staz, a sniper instructor and demolitions expert, served a decade and was honoured with the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for his valour. Louis dedicated eight rigorous years to the SBS, during which time the two forged a bond over their shared commitment to excellence, and a relentless passion for improving their kit, because in the most inhospitable terrain on Earth, your equipment can kill you before your enemies do. Their military tenure exposed them to the limitations of standard-issue gear. Often, they found themselves modifying their equipment –sewing on mountain-sock cuffs to keep wrists warm or tailoring garments for better functionality. This hands-on experience highlighted a significant gap in the market for apparel that could meet the exacting standards of elite operators. Recognising this need, as their military tenures were coming to an end, they began to envision a brand that would bring military-grade performance to the civilian adventurer.

Thus, ThruDark was born. The name encapsulates the founders’ experiences of operating predominantly under the cover of darkness, symbolising endurance and perseverance in the face of adversity. Their slogan, “Endeavour Through Adversity,” reflects this ethos, underscoring a commitment to pushing through challenges. And make no mistake, Louis and Staz rigorously field-test every single garment they design, as well as working alongside Olympic and world sporting champions. This real-world validation ensures that each garment not only meets but exceeds the demands of the most intrepid adventurers.
Transitioning from military operations to entrepreneurship was no small feat. The duo immersed themselves in the intricacies of garment production, gaining hands-on experience in factories and travelling extensively to identify the ideal manufacturing partners. Their journey led them to Italy, renowned for its artisanal craftsmanship, where they established the production of ThruDark’s unique designs, working in conjunction with performance fabric partners such as Dyneema, Polartec, Pertex and Primaloft.

The brand’s range includes technical outerwear and activewear, all crafted from advanced materials, but it’s the details that really set them apart from the rest. Features such as removable insignia patches and integrated balaclava systems highlight the meticulous attention to detail that stems from the founders’ military backgrounds.
For those who demand the mutual inclusivity of style and substance, ThruDark offers a compelling proposition, seamlessly blending military precision with modern aesthetics, resulting in apparel that is as suited to a challenging expedition as it is to a weekend retreat. Pieces such as the Renegade parka are testament to the brand’s uncompromised design principles – a modern silhouette that would look slick in any techwear wardrobe, but has the technical credentials like nothing else, being crafted from a three-layer waterproof and windproof Pertex Shield fabric. Or the Arctic-tested 900-fill power Bastion jacket, constructed from Pertex Quantum fabric and featuring a targeted baffle system that maximises insulation and breathability. The bar for performance clothing has been set. Hats off to anyone who can hold a candle to ThruDark.
