Globe-Trotter has been producing expertly handcrafted luggage for the eager, ahem, globetrotter since its establishment in 1897. Travelling has changed exponentially over that time, with travel bags now subjected to a barrage of hazards – from careless luggage handlers to crowded overhead lockers – but the Hertfordshire-based brand remains dedicated to making quality products that hold firm against the rigours of modern-day travel.
The design of Globe-Trotter’s cases has stayed largely unchanged because of its sturdy construction and expert craftsmanship, with the case’s shape and style now synonymous with the brand. But possibly Globe-Trotter’s most timeless and enduring innovation is its use of vulcanised fibreboard: 14 layers of high-quality paper compressed together resulting in a material that is lightweight, water resistant and exceedingly durable. This is used for its suitcase shell (and able to withstand the weight of a baby elephant). However, where there is excellence there is always inspiration.
Enter Muirhead.

Muirhead has been making luxury leather in Scotland for over 180 years, working with the world’s finest fashion brands, luxury aircraft manufacturers – and even gracing the seats of The House of Lords. Now, Muirhead is joining forces with Globe-Trotter to produce the Crafted Collection, the latest edition in Globe-Trotter’s extensive repertoire.
Muirhead’s premium leather coats the hard vulcanised fibreboard shell structure of the Crafted case, ensuring a sleek finish that helps propel this collection to above even Globe-Trotter’s deluxe range. To guarantee the cases remain as impressive as the day they were constructed, Muirhead uses the finest leather from its Natural Performance collection, designed to resist wear and tear and maintain a flawless appearance.
‘The Crafted Collection stands out from the rest as we have focused entirely on the quality of material and the craftsmanship which goes into creating each case,’ says James Fisher, product development director at Globe-Trotter. ‘Because of this, we wanted to work with Muirhead as they produce the very best leather in the country and surpass any other supplier in terms of quality.’
Each item in the Crafted Collection goes through a rigorous production operation where it takes 10 days and a 90-step manufacturing process to create just one suitcase. Each item is handcrafted by experienced artisans who are scrupulous in their precision and craft.

Another factor that Globe-Trotter considered with the Crafted Collection is Muirhead’s dedication to sustainability. From the farm to the finished product, sustainable practices are at the heart of everything Muirhead does.
‘Sustainability is a tradition that has shaped our approach to crafting the finest leather for over 180 years,’ says Jonathan Lord, head of sales at Muirhead. ‘We remain deeply committed to responsible practices, from responsible farming practices to our resource-efficient production process, to help us produce luxury leather that lasts a lifetime.’
The Crafted Collection features in an array of designs, including the Carry-On Case, Small Attaché, and the cross-body Mayfair Case. All are available in three distinct colourways – ‘the three chosen colours for the collection – Black, Leaf Green and Sherry Red – are deeply inspired by the lush, natural beauty surrounding the Muirhead factory in Scotland,’ explains Lord.
Timeless, exceptional quality, and respect for tradition and the environment; the Crafted Collection reflects the very best of what both Globe-Trotter and Muirhead believe in.
