Grand Seiko was born out of Seiko’s pursuit of the ‘ideal’ watch, a subsidiary creating timepieces that would push the boundaries not only of precision timekeeping but of craftsmanship and aesthetics. Now a company in its own right, Grand Seiko’s central ethos is felt in its collections decades on, as the watchmaker continues to add to and refine its offering.
Its latest GMT watch, created in celebration of 140 years of Seiko, is a case in point, showcasing its high-precision quartz movement in this sophisticated design. This is a sports watch seen through Grand Seiko’s sophisticated eye, offering practicality and robustness in an elegant package ideal for everyday wear.
Every detail has been meticulously thought through to enhance legibility and performance. This includes the two-tone dial ring, which allows the night and day hours indicated by the GMT hand to be read instantly. Meanwhile, the hands are coated in LumiBrite to ensure legibility as night falls. The sleek black-dialled design comes in three variations each with different colour highlights - red, blue, and a limited edition of 2,021 in gold. Powering them all is the Calibre 9F, packed with handy features including a date with an instant change mechanism, along with a magnetic resistance of 16,000 A/m.
